This Hypocenter Files contain the historical hypocenter data compiled and distributed
by International Seismological Centre (ISC).
The files and the sources of data are:
1904-1963 Historical catalogues not determined by ISC
1. 1904-1952. Gutenberg and Richter - 'Seismicity of the Earth'
2. 1913-1963. International Seismological Summary (ISS).
3. 1935 Bureau Central International de Seismologie (BCIS).
4. 1950-1963.11.29. Bureau Central International de Seismologie (BCIS).
5. 1950-1963. L.R. Sykes catalogue of ridge events.
6. 1928-1960. United States Coast and Geodetic Survey.
1964- ISC determined catalogue
7. 1964-1983. International Seismological Centre (ISC) prime estimates.
8. 1982-1983. Preliminary Determination of Epicentres from United States
National Earthquake Information Service (NEIS).
9. 1984- All estimates published in ISC bulletins
The original ISC historical MT files contain the primary estimate indicated by top (*)
character and many alternate estimate followed by it. So we select the primary estimate from
the MT files here.

As seen from the following letter of February 13, 1987 from ISC, only people
belonging to Japanese national institutions can use the ISC files free of charge.
If you do not belong to a Japanese national institution, you are *NOT* allowed
to copy any of the ISC files. Thank you.
